NAHT Disabled Members' Network

NAHT's Disabled Members' Network is an informal group for members who identify as disabled. The network is led by members, for members.

The network helps amplify the voices of disabled members within NAHT, as well as providing  support, information and networking opportunities. Members of the network also have the opportunity to participate in the wider work of NAHT  this includes engaging with our policy discussions with government, representing NAHT at campaigning events and feeding into discussions and decision-making with other sectors in the union, such as the Diversity and Inclusion group (DiG).

Facilitated by NAHT, the network meets online every half term, with the option to engage in a busy WhatsApp group that's used regularly by many of the network members.

What do members of the network say about it?

"It was empowering to join other education leaders in the NAHT who have a disability and share our experiences of the challenges of leadership in schools and nurseries. The opportunity to talk in confidence and share was something I will enjoy continuing within the network.”

….Here I met a group of people that both listened to and empathised with me. They did not have to do either, and yet they did. More than that, they shared their experiences in order to support and encourage me, and each other. None of us has exactly the same disability but we have common ground and mutual respect.”
