Nick Brook, deputy general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT, said: “The decision in Wales today must be considered carefully by England. The government needs to look at the reasoning behind it and explain how a different decision in England is justifiable and fair. They need to explain how they plan to mitigate the issues which are across all of the nations, if Wales has decided the only possible option is to cancel all exams and Scotland has decided that they need to cancel the equivalent of GCSEs but go ahead with A level equivalents. So that’s not to say exams shouldn’t go ahead in England, but the government needs to explain how this approach will be fair to students in the circumstances.”
