Commenting as the government today announce a rise in funding for schools maintenance and repairs, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT said:
“Before the pandemic there was an urgent need to repair the school estate – the National Audit Office put the amount needed at around £7bn. School funding has been declining in real terms since 2010, meaning many schools have had to put off or cut back on maintenance work. The need is even more urgent now if we are to provide learning spaces that have safe ventilation and are environmentally sustainable."
