Responding to a new survey from the children's commissioner which found that almost a quarter of children spend more than four hours a day using devices like phones, tablets, gaming consoles and computers, Sarah Hannafin, head of policy at school leaders’ union NAHT, said:
“While it’s important to look at how much time children and young people are spending on devices and screens, which can in itself be cause for concern, what is even more important is regulating the content they might be viewing online.
“Everyone, including schools, parents and online providers such as social media and gaming companies, has an important role to play in protecting, safeguarding and educating children and young people about their online activity.
“The negative impacts of concerning content accessed during those hours spent on devices won’t be reduced without everyone, including children and young people themselves, committing to change.”
