Today, the school leaders’ union NAHT congratulates staff member Amanda Martin on her election as the new MP for Portsmouth North. Amanda unseated Penny Mordaunt, who was leader of the House of Commons until the election was called. The new MP won 14,495 votes.
Amanda has been a teacher for over twenty years, and at the NAHT used her experience to head up the union’s strategy for multi-academy trusts.
Paul Whiteman, general secretary of the school leaders’ union, NAHT said:
“It’s clear that education was an important issue for the electorate in Portsmouth North. I have no doubt that Amanda will be a passionate advocate for children and young people in Parliament. Her understanding of the education sector is impressive, and her expertise is formidable.
“We will miss Amanda being part of our team – but wish her all the best in her new role.”
