NAHT is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ruth Perry. Ruth was clearly a well-respected and much loved headteacher. Our thoughts are with Ruth’s family, friends and all those in the school community that she served with such passion and dedication.

The current inspection system places a completely unacceptable level of pressure on individual school leaders. NAHT has been campaigning for change for a number of years but the government and Ofsted have not taken the warnings seriously enough. This cannot be allowed to continue. NAHT believes that we need a fundamental review of how inspection works in this country. The impact of inspection on the mental health and well-being of school leaders must be central to such a review.
