The Sunday Times ran a front cover article at the weekend on the appalling situation of asbestos still being present in four-fifths of schools. Since then, several NAHT members have been asking how they can get involved in the campaign against it.
NAHT continues to campaign on all aspects of school building safety, inlcuding asbestos, but one thing everyone can get involved with this week is Action Mesothelioma Day, which takes place on Friday (7 July). This year’s theme is Go Blue for Meso, and the aim of the day is to help raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos – including the asbestos cancer mesothelioma. The organisers are asking people to light up their homes or contact a prominent landmark in their local area to light up blue on the day.

NAHT members can read our advice document for school leaders, School premises and asbestos – a best practice guide.
There is also an Early Day Motion (EDM) before Parliament at the moment on Cape Holdings and asbestos research.
