In this comprehensive webinar, we will break down the key components of school finance and provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to navigate this critical area effectively.
This course begins with back-to-basics information to support the head teacher and School Business Leader to develop the necessary skills to analyse and evaluate financial information and prepare the correct level of information for the governing body.
We then move on to look at strategies and best practice to maximise efficiencies and either prevent schools going into deficit or bring a school back to a neutral financial position by developing a financial recovery plan.

Aims
- Financial development skills for the head teacher/SLT/SBL.
- Learn about best practice strategies for maximising efficiencies and reducing spend in non-essential areas.
- Learn about financial reporting, this includes preparing financial statements, budget reports, and other financial documents that provide transparency and accountability to stakeholders, such as governors, parents, and regulatory bodies.
- Learn how to develop a financial recovery plan to reduce spend or recover over a 3 year period.
Audience
School Leaders – head teachers, deputy head teachers and SLT including SBLs working in primary and secondary settings. The facilitator will include valuable information about specific funding levels in special schools and APs so leaders from all settings are encouraged to attend.

Philippa has had a long career in education, having been a head of english, a vice principal of a large sixth form college in Greater Manchester, head teacher of a pupil referral unit and Head teacher at a secondary alternative provision school. Philippa is formally trained every academic year in the rigorous of the common inspection framework to prepare primary and secondary schools for Ofsted visits.
Philippa is a training partner for the NAHT, delivering courses for Head teachers across the country, in subjects such as Ofsted Update, Leading School Safeguarding, Joining or Forming a MAT – making an informed choice AND Leadership and Leading School Investigations.
Philippa has been an education improvement adviser for ten years and works with schools in all sectors around the country supporting school leaders.
