Commenting as Welsh Government today release a new toolkit for schools designed to help control the spread of Covid in classrooms, Laura Doel, director of school leaders’ union NAHT, said: “This does not offer any practical support for school leaders who are dealing with a crisis.
“Schools do not have to be told to make sure they are adhering to the measures already in place. School leaders want extra support, practical tools they can use to keep their staff and learners safe, not a rehash of the existing framework measures we believe were not robust enough in the first place.
“High levels of staff absence pose a very real threat to the delivery of education. We have to look at reintroducing Covid control measures that had little impact on the delivery of education – things like staggered session times, grouping of learners, and enhanced cleaning measures.
“The First Minister promised additional support and this toolkit is not it.”
