Chair: Judy Shaw, head teacher, Tuel Lane Infant School, West Yorkshire
As a sector that lays the foundation for learning to come, it is important that our early years members come together to strengthen the profession, so our children have the best start to their education. This group represents our members with early years provision in primary, infant and nursery schools and those with a separate private nursery.
The council steers and informs our policy on early years education. It also ensures our advice, representation of members, events and conferences reflect the concerns of this sector. It includes our members from a range of settings across the country and external experts in the field of early years education.
Areas of focus for the council include the following:
- Funding of early years providers, including the funding of maintained nursery schools
- The impact of the government’s 30 hours’ free childcare policy
- Curriculum and assessment in the early years
- The early years workforce, and the long-term strategy in relation to workforce supply and qualifications.
