Ruth Davies, president of school leaders’ union NAHT, said: “Schools have a vital role to play in tackling discrimination. It is through education that we can start to build a truly inclusive society. It is through education that we can discuss and challenge prejudice. Schools need support in doing so and that’s why funding like the government’s anti-bullying grant is so important. If this is correct and funding has been discontinued, it’s important that the government is clear on what alternative support is being made available.
“This year NAHT are working with Diversity Role Models as our charity partners. It is important for all children to have positive role models from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnicities. This helps to break down stereotypes and prejudice, and encourages children to broaden their horizons and ambitions and fulfil their educational potential.”
