Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT, said: “International Workers' Memorial Day is an important reminder of the dedication of ordinary people. Their employers and those in power should always fully discharge their duty of care.
“Too many members of school staff teams have already died from COVID. Today is a day to honour and remember them.
“The trade union movement has always been a powerful force for good in the workplace. The famous statue outside the Trades Union Congress building is of one worker helping another. This spirit of collective responsibility and support has never been more important as we seek to make workplaces safe and to reinforce the need for governments and policy-makers to take workers’ rights seriously.”
