Commenting on the latest Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), which looks at the results of tests taken by children in Years 5 and 9 in science and maths, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of the school leaders' union, NAHT said:
“Whilst international comparisons such as these can provoke an interesting discussion about how we are performing as a nation, we must be careful not to over-interpret the results. The upward movement in science is obviously pleasing and credit should go to the teachers and leaders who strive on a daily basis to provide the best education possible to pupils in their care.”
