Responding to findings from the Youth Sports Trust which found the PE ‘enjoyment gap’ for girls is widening, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders' union NAHT, said:
"Schools do much to help ensure pupils are physically active and get to experience new sports for the first time and millions of girls and young women now participate in sport through their schools.
“However, it is absolutely right that as well as focusing on equal access to sports for girls and boys and further extending participation, positive steps are taken to break down barriers to girls’ enjoyment of sport so more can reap the rewards for their physical and mental health.”
