NAHT is deeply concerned about the reported actions of Southwark Diocese in relation to a planned visit by the children’s author Simon James Green, as part of the school’s work to mark World Book Day.
NAHT has written to the diocese requesting that an urgent meeting of all parties, including ourselves, takes place and that all action in relation to this matter is ceased until such a meeting takes place. We will be supporting any of our members who may be affected.
All schools should be places of inclusivity and equality. It is through education that we can start to build a truly inclusive society. School leaders have a unique and vital role to play in this work and are committed to doing so, from the overarching ethos of schools to the detail of the curriculum.
