NAHT comments on the postponement of the full lifting of lockdown measures

Commenting on the postponement of the full lifting of lockdown measures, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of NAHT, which represents leaders in the majority of schools, said: “The rising number of cases of the Delta variant amongst children and young people, combined with increased outbreaks in school settings, meant that the government really had no other option than to keep existing measures in place in schools. Relaxing them at this stage would have been reckless, to say the least.

“Now that we know current arrangements will remain in place for the remainder of this term, attention must turn to plans for September. Whilst it is difficult to predict precisely how the situation will evolve in the coming months, at the very least, schools need to know the different scenarios that they need to plan for, well before the summer break, so that they can put the necessary arrangements in place.”
