NAHT was delighted to attend this year’s TUC women’s conference with a strong delegation. 

Every year, the TUC hosts a series of equality conferences, which focus on supporting the advancement of issues that disproportionally impact minority groups. Kicking off the series was the TUC Women’s Conference in London (6 to 8 March 2024), which called on a #NewDealforWomen. NAHT was represented by seven NAHT members from across our regions, who discussed and supported calls across a plethora of areas put to the conference, all of which disproportionately impact women workers. 

Motion themes put to the conference included:

• calls to implement measure to improve the safety of women and girls on public transport
• calls to support gender equality both domestically and internationally
• continued campaigning against misogyny, sexual harassment, sexual violence, and sexual stereotyping
• protecting women from the impact of online abuse; and third-party harassment
• working with men and boys to end violence against women and girls
• empowering and including women across the trade union movement
• calls to improvement flexible working, and childcare support
• support for women’s maternal and mental health; and greater support for the menopause in the workplace.

The event also included addresses from TUC president Matt Wrack, members of TUC general council who lead the sexual harassment executive working group, TUC general secretary Paul Nowak, and shadow secretary of state for women and equalities Anneliese Dodds.

Delegates also had the opportunity to join fringe discussions and wider union networking sessions. 

Closing on International Women's Day last Friday (8 March 2024), which recognises the cultural, economic, political, and social value of women and the challenges faced by women, the conference was a huge success and our delegates left feeling inspired and energised. 'We have all loved it and are keen to take the learning back to NAHT,' said one NAHT delegate.
