Special updated feature: There is power in a union

I hope these first few weeks of the new academic year have gone well for you.

Today, we’re pleased to be able to share with you a Leadership Focus special feature on the recent industrial action campaign.

We were due to include this in our summer issue, but the recent offer from the government and subsequent decision by members in England to accept it meant that much of our original feature, which considered the then very real prospect of ensuing industrial action, was no longer relevant.

“Stop the press!” we shouted across the printing hall (or, to be more precise, we emailed our publisher and told it that we’d need to rewrite the copy, but I can assure you it was just as dramatic).

Despite the need to delay the feature, we’re glad that we’re now able to bring you the whole story of the campaign in England from start to finish, which now includes a look to the future, specifically how NAHT will be further engaging with the government on the still critical issues of pay and funding, workload and well-being, recruitment and retention, and inspection.

Check out an update on the situations in JerseyNorthern Ireland and Wales, too.

We hope you enjoy reading about the story of this hard-fought campaign, which our members were at the very heart of.

Best wishes

David Gilmore
NAHT head of communications
