DfE launches next consultation on the Teachers’ Pension Scheme transitional protection remedy

The Department for Education (DfE) has now launched its consultation on the retrospective remedy to address the discrimination that was identified in the transitional protection arrangements in the 2015 reforms to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and other public service pension schemes.

The consultation sets out how the DfE proposes to implement the remedy approach confirmed by the Treasury in 2021, and how the process will work for those affected.

The consultation is running until 4 June 2023 and NAHT is currently drafting a response. Members do not need to be concerned by this consultation as it relates to technical amendments to regulations to ensure that pensions can be paid out on the appropriate basis following the McCloud case. NAHT members don’t need to take any action.
