Commenting on the Independent Welsh Pay Review Body’s recommendation for teachers’ pay for 2021-22, Laura Doel, director of NAHT Cymru, said: “The IWPRB’s recommendation of a 1.75% pay increase across all pay scales is barely in line with inflation. While appreciating that we are in a difficult financial climate, this would be a very low award, harking back to a pre-devolved days.
“Given that the Welsh Government prides itself on creating a better future for education and education professionals in Wales, built upon tackling the recruitment and retention crisis, it would be a huge step backwards if the Minister for Education were to agree to this recommendation”.
