Interactive Workshop For SEND and Alternative Provision

This workshop will begin with setting the scene in terms of the place of specialist and alternative provision within the wider educational system. This will include an explanation of:

  1. What is happening to the 2019 SEND Reforms which resulted in the SEND & AP Improvement Plan, Right Support, Right Place, Right Time
  2. What Ofsted plans to put in place in order to encourage mainstream schools to be more inclusive and to improve inspectors’ understanding of the role of special schools and AP
  3. What the current Curriculum and Assessment Review is setting out to achieve in terms of pupils with additional needs.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion on what has been outlined so far, together with an exchange of ideas about what else needs to happen in order to improve the wellbeing, both of pupils and of those who are responsible for their education.

The workshop will end with a Q & A session. A panel will help to respond to queries, but everyone is invited to share ideas and experiences which have led to positive outcomes.

Although it may be frustrating that a change of government came when the Improvement Plan was halfway through trialling some significant changes, this has also given time for a different government to reflect on whether or not the changes are the right ones and for us to have a hand in influencing the future.
