Chair: Marijke Miles, head teacher at Baycroft School, Fareham
Our members working in special schools and special education are at the heart of raising the aspirations for the most vulnerable young people; it is vital that we empower them, champion their work and raise awareness about the issues they face. This group acts as a voice for our members working in special schools, specialist education and alternative provision.
The council shapes our policy in the area of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and works closely with our professional development team to deliver the special, specialist and alternative provision conference. It also assists our advice team to develop relevant information and guidance for members working in specialist education settings.
The council has a wide-ranging brief to look at issues that impact on the education of pupils with SEND.
Areas of focus for the council include the following:
- Disability, SEN legislation and inclusion
- Assessment of pupils with SEND
- How Ofsted inspects aspects of SEND
- Availability of services to support children with SEND.
For any questions about the council, get in touch with our policy team by emailing policy@naht.org.uk.
