School trips are, for many, a highlight of the year and an exciting element of the curriculum.
A successful school trip will often leave long-lasting impressions on those attending. We want those impressions to be positive, and so we have produced this short guide for members who are planning or who have already planned their trip as a 'ready-reckoner'.
Wherever you are in the planning process, this is an invaluable guide to ensuring that such trips pass without incident and where the associated risks are minimised.
In light of advice from the Department for Education, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Outdoor Education Advisers' Panel (OEAP), we have revised our advice and guidance. We look at the following:
- Relevant legislation
- A recommended planning approach
- Risk assessment
- Other considerations, such as adult:pupil ratios
- The threat of terrorism.
