Responding to the Welsh Government's announcement of an additional £20m in funding for schools for 2024/25, Laura Doel, national secretary at school leaders' union NAHT Cymru, said:
"We welcome the additional funding the Welsh Government has announced for schools, including those in special measures.
“However, in itself this is unlikely to be enough to significantly ease the huge financial challenges facing many schools, many of which are grappling with budget deficits and facing really unpalatable choices between cutting staffing and support for pupils.
“Nearly six months on, we still don’t have clarity on whether Welsh schools are getting the equivalent of the extra investment announced for education in England in the UK Budget last autumn.
“We need a commitment to greater investment to help schools ensure they can deliver the best possible education for all pupils in Wales - with action to end to the messy postcode lottery we currently see when it comes to per pupil funding.”
