NAHT Well-being Conference, 23rd March 2022

My Well-being:  The Long and Winding Road

Wednesday 23rd March 2022

Aspire, Leeds

Event overview

Good mental health and well-being has become increasingly important for children and young people to flourish in life and learning but for this to happen, the well-being of their school leaders is crucial. The NAHT is proud to present its first Well-Being Conference for all school leaders. The aim of this conference is to create a little space to pause, reflect and recharge.

Being a teacher, leader or member of the support staff is tough. So how do you look after yourself first, so you can make the biggest difference for your learners? How do you ‘do less, better’ in terms of your wellbeing and leadership, whatever your role in school?

There is no doubt that school leaders have worked relentlessly to ensure the best possible outcomes for all stakeholders in their communities and continue to face challenges this academic year.

We would love for you to join us at this event to proactively focus on your well-being as a deliberate act so that you can replenish your resilience and thrive.

Whether you’re looking for new ideas, a fresh vision for your school or developing strategies and toolkits, we can support you in considering practical strategies to increase your capacity to facilitate positive change in your personal and professional well-being.

Support from NAHT Wellness and Protect has allowed us to offer you a £50 discount off your ticket price.  They will be present at the conference providing free optional health checks.

Why is Well-being so important to the NAHT?

Supporting staff mental health can have a significant impact on sickness absence rates, employee motivation, performance and retention. With a bulge in pupil numbers and over 20% of new teachers leaving the profession within their first 2 years of teaching and 33% after 5 years, a key priority for headteachers is to create a supportive school culture that nurtures all staff.

The challenge will be how this can be done without impacting on pupil learning or creating more pressure on school leaders.

Mental well-being doesn't have one set meaning. We might use it to talk about how we feel, how well we're coping with daily life or what feels possible at the moment. Good mental well-being doesn't mean you're always happy or unaffected by your experiences. But poor mental wellbeing can make it more difficult to cope with daily life.

Our programme for the day includes some excellent speakers; thought leaders in the field of wellbeing in education. Take this time to learn more about yourself, develop your strengths and feel empowered to take charge of your health.
